Prior to 2007, the Winstar Casino in Oklahoma was little more than a squat, industrial looking compound with a large gaming tent; not exactly the glitz and glamor one would expect from a world class gaming destination. Naturally, once the casino had proven its success, the Chickasaw Nation wanted to renovate, but this presented a problem. Every second that the gaming floors were closed would have been lost revenue, so the notion of remodeling the casino from the inside out was untenable. Fortunately for the Chickasaw, Greenville, Texas based Stromberg Architectural had a solution. Rather than remodel the entire space, build an elaborate façade to serve as an entrance to the casino. This creates the illusion of grandiose scale that is expected of a world class gaming destination like the Winstar World Casino. The result? An amazing, tour de force mélange of architecture from across the globe!

Stromberg Architectural Fiberglass, and the Exterior of the Winstar

The exterior façade on the Winstar World Casino is an extravagant collage of various forms of architecture. Big Ben and Westminster Palace to Roman Coliseums, the Pantheon and even Chinese pagodas, all come together to make up an elaborate cocktail of some of the world’s most inspiring architecture. How did they do it? Not did Stromberg pull out all the stops in terms of architectural design, they were also aided by the incredible versatility of architectural fiberglass, or GFRP.

Two of the more prominent and recognizable architectural features that make up the exterior façade of the Winstar Casino are Big Ben and Westminster Palace. Both famous landmarks in London, Big Ben is the iconic clock tower that we all know from Peter Pan and Doctor Who. This amazing homage was constructed just in time for the 150^th anniversary of the construction of the original Big Ben in London. True to form, the Winstar Big Ben is remarkably similar to the original, due to the fact that the master craftsmen over at Stromberg drafted their plans from the original, 19^th century blueprints.

Stromberg Provides the Royal Treatment

Complimentary to the neo-Big Ben is an elegant replication of the seat of England’s royalty: Westminster Palace. While the Palace of Westminster in London is located right on the Thames, the architectural fiberglass replica at the Winstar is right at home on the Oklahoma plains. Although there (usually) aren’t any blooded royalty in the Winstar, patrons feel like kings and queens due to the beautiful reception provided by the elegant façade.
